I am not a crazy cricket fanatic but like every other Pakistani I go bonkers when it’s #PAKvsIND. That is what happened during this year’s Champions Trophy matches. Even though I don’t follow a lot of cricket series but T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy series are my favorite & I try not to miss these especially when Pakistan is playing.
Needless to say, we had our preparations ready for the BIG DAY. No work, snacks all ready, phones on silent, everyone glued to their TV! If I be honest here, I was a little disappointed from our last performance during Pakistan vs India. Despite all that, I wanted us to excel because a) IT WAS FINAL OF #CT17. We freaking made it to the finalssss! b) COME ON! It’s #PakvInd, what else do you expect? 😉
The day finally came & the comeback was indeed remarkable! Fakhar showed an amazing performance as an opener making a century while Hassan Ali kept us on the edge with his powerful bowling. Not only did he won man of the tournament award but he was also awarded with the golden ball. Not to forget Mohammad Amir’s performance when he took Indian opener Rohit Sharma & skipper Virat Kohli with a beautiful spell! And who else can forget the moment when Shadab insisted that the ball had hit the pad, asked for the review on Yuvi’s LBW & the captain trusted him.
As per Sarfaraz, 9 boys were playing an ICC event for the first time while 4 to 5 boys were in the team for the first time. This is a really good sign for youngsters as well as for Pakistan’s team, we really needed a fresh team to represent all of us on international levels. Young blood, passionate to excel and learn on the field, what’s better than giving our youth a chance? It was indeed very fruitful for Pakistan. From bottom 8th to the top, we came a long way!
The celebrations continued when the team was given a heroic welcome. That’s not all though. Sarfaraz was received by hundreds of fans at his residential block with Pakistani patriotic songs blaring in the background. The best part is, all this happened in my neighborhood but the sad part is, I couldn’t go and witness this magical moment! Sarfaraz came out in his balcony & showed the Champions Trophy along with cheering with the crowd and not to forget that he did sing a few words of “Mauqa Mauqa” which received a very loud cheering reaction from the spectators. I witnessed everything in a video shared on the internet and I feel goosebumps for all the respect and love he received that day, I can’t even begin to imagine what he must have felt! We all felt as it was an Eid before the real Eid. :’)
To celebrate one of the proudest moments of Pakistan, JS Bank honored Sarfaraz with a BMW at Geo Khelo Pakistan show which is hosted by ex cricketers Wasim Akram & Shoaib Akhtar. What better way to honor the captain. Sarfaraz definitely deserves all this love and much more from all of us. I am so happy that some brands are acknowledging his efforts! I keep wondering if he would ever show up in his BMW in the neighborhood? Well, who knows! 😉
Here’s to hoping that we are blessed with Sarfaraz’s captaincy for a longer (read: infinite) period. ❤
