United for Healthier Kids is a global campaign by Nestle which works against Malnutrition. Malnutrition refers to inadequate nutrition or food intake which could either result from less eating or/and over eating. Keeping the balance is the key here.
97% of children in Pakistan do not receive a well-balanced diet. 1 out of 3 children is iron deficient in Pakistan. We can very well imagine the status of health crisis being faced today. Not only the kids but even adults are leading unhealthy lifestyle these days. So the question is, how do we overcome these issues?
Here is what we can do:
These unhealthy lifestyle habits can affect us today that can lead to problems tomorrow. Let’s shape up and instil good habits in our kids so that they can have a healthier tomorrow. I loved whatever I learned today especially when it’s applicable and beneficial for everyone in the family.
Take baby steps. Cut down all the soda intake. Replace it with water. Then start adding walking/jogging/exercising in your daily routine. Go out to some nearby park with your family. Let the kids in the family learn by example. 🙂 Don’t forget to set time out for kids especially when they are using electronic devices like smartphones/tabs. 1 hour is more than enough. Push them to go out or just go and play other games which require physical activity. Teach them to drink water after every 2 hours. Instead of sending them out to buy their daily dose of junk (read: chips, juices, chocolates), involve them in preparing evening healthy snacks so they can learn to adopt the habit in future while enjoying it.
Lastly, always prepare and plan your food intake. Use a very controlled portion. Don’t go overboard. Always add fibre, protein & good carbs in your meals. Prepare your kids meal in the same manner. If you’re a working professional, prepare your meals beforehand. Use 1/2 tbsp of oil. At work if you’re hungry, keep cucumbers, carrots, handful of nuts, apple to munch on during the day. Don’t starve yourself. Sprinkle chaat masala and gobble over them. ❤ The same could be done for kids (minus the chaat masala). You can add boiled corn with a hint of lemon, boiled eggs, mashed potatoes with some cheese. These are far more better options than processed frozen food.
So guys, pledge for a healthier start today. If you have kids in your family, then pass on the message to their parents. Even if you don’t have kids in your family, pass the word around in your social circle.
